Local 568 is currently in preliminary stages of talks with the Miami management team in exploring avenues available that would bring work into the fleet service group, by approaching other air carriers and cargo handlers operating at MIA. We know that it would be good for our members in that it would grow their options of shifts, days off, work areas and expand headcount, while also generating revenue opportunities that are beneficial for both the company and our members.
UPDATE: There has been interests expressed by other airlines in doing business with MIA's TWU Fleet Service as a service provider, however obstacles such as our current bagroom capacity are a factor. We are looking into other areas which we could handle other carrier's baggage without further impacting our already over-stressed bagroom. We will keep you informed of any news on this issue.
