| TWU 568 POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT |
TWU 568 attends various political events in order to establish contacts on local, state, and national levels on behalf of you, the member. We have met with Senator Joe Biden in his recent bid for the Democratic nominee, attended functions where Senator Barack Obama spoke, and where former President Bill Clinton campaigned for Hillary's nomination.
Each year we go to Washington DC, and visit our legislators like Senator Bill Nelson, Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Congressman Ron Klein, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Shultz, and Congresswoman Kathy Castor to speak with them on issues important to you, such as TSA restrictions, US Customs, foreign ownership of domestic air carriers, foreign maintenance base security standards, the Free Choice Act, and many other topics.
In state politics, we recently had Mayor Raul Martinez visit the union hall as our guest during the February Executive Board Meeting where he spoke of his intentions to run for Congress. Also, Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart has expressed interest in meeting with your local. Our intentions are to make contact with as many candidates as are interested, and encourage them to walk with us on the ramp to meet you personally, and so that you may ask them questions.
